Privately funded Bones in Motion’s BiM Active will let you use GPS-enabled cell phones to measure distance, elevation, calories and route while running. With slick integration capabilities that bridge collected data with Google maps, BiM’s application has promise for adventursome runners and cyclers. Sprint has just announced that it will be one of the mobile-aware applications.

Opinion

While many of the serious runners I know never take their cell phones with them during their jaunts, BiM’s product, nonetheless, looks inviting. Their user interface relies upon the graphical capabilities of your typical cell phone, so it’s not fantastic, but seems usable nonetheless.

The demo needed more practicing. It wasn’t as smooth as it could have been. But I know, first hand, the pressures presenters face.
