I have never hacked and it is really annoying because i think the only mistake i made is when i tried to install my games on a another computer. I have a laptop and a desktop and i was moving the game. So i think they banned me for duplicate log ins. which is really fustrating

if your steam account was banned by VAC then you in fact were cheating. not a minor form either you were using a program to aid your gameplay. VAC detects hacks by several different methods and it does not make mistakes. valve will not unban these accounts….get legit

They banned 30 accounts two weeks ago all at once that we had gave away at our gaming center in Rochester, MN and refuse to respond to us so we’ve decided to boycott Steam/Valve games and we’re asking all of our gamers to do the same. All of these accounts were paid for by our company. Very shady business this company runs.

The ATI registration is based on your Mac Address and MachineGUID. You will get this error message if someone has already registered the game on your computer or in the highly unlikely event that your Mac address or MachineGUID are duplicated.

Please make sure that Windows is completely up-to-date before attempting to register this offer. If it continues to fail, there is nothing we can do as only one subscription is allowed per MachineGUID and Mac address.

This computer is brand new. It was just purchased new from Dell. I am the only person to open it, install windows and connect it to the internet. Maybe I clicked something wrong in Steam to cause it to register twice or something? If it’s already registered to someone can you tell me WHO it’s registered to? It’s my machine so it must be me. I’m interested in purchasing other games, but if this steam system is going to lock me out of those too, i’m afraid to do business with you. I’d appreciate it if you could look into my problem a little more closely. surely you have so logs or something to see what went wrong during my activation.

I just got a new comptuer from Dell today. it’s has this ATI offer of a two free valve games. I installed steam but it tells me “Duplicate Registration” when I try to install the games. I’ve never played them before why am I getting this error?

Same thing happened to me about 2-3 weeks ago and I’m pretty disappointed. I’ll admit I HAVE hacked in the past but after that account got banned, I learned my lesson… The last 2 accounts I had were just banned and it really sucks because I’ve bought a lot of games to play through Steam on one of them because I knew I would never try to get it banned or whatnot… It just really sucks but I noticed on my one older banned account, it does not say I’m banned from playing Counter-Strike: Source and I’m wondering that if I do buy the game again, will I be able to play, or will it just be another game I cannot play online against other players?

You muppets, here is how VAC works:

When a program injects itself into the .dll files of the game or steam or your graphics drivers VAC comes to life. It then scans the program using a database of known cheats. If the program is not in the database it scans the program to find out what it is doing, if it is applying some form of overlay directly onto the game, or if it has injected itself into the games memory or .dll files then you get banned.

Using skins cannot get you banned.
Playing legit cannot get you banned.

I have had my steam account for 6 years now, I have never hacked, and I have never been banned.

Now stop lying and face it, you hacked, you got caught, you got punished.

I used a hack in single player mode and got banned for that!! I thought u could only get banned when u play VAC secure servers, and if i made my own bot game, how is that VAAC secure?!!

I got banned today after playing CSS for over 2 years. Why? Because some hacking A-hole annoyed me enough to download a free hack myself and make him leave the server. I openly told the other players what I was doing and they were happy to see it. IF VAC banned sooner rather than later I would never have installed the hack in the first place. In the VAC terms & conditions it mentions about not letting gamers have unfair advantage. All I did was take away the hackers advantage but this way they get more regular gamers to re-buy the games. I, however will simply use my brothers account and tell everyone I know never to buy steam games again.

Listen I’m not on steam neither anyone side but you need to understand how steam works. I myself am a hacker but only as to “Self-Defense Reasons”.

Let me tell you guys something; If you claim you did get banned by steam because of “Cheating Infractions”, you.. my friend were using an illegal .dll .executive associating with branched core files. As a Hacker, Hopefully this will educate you about steam core files.

Steam::

The “Steams Core file” is a solid base made up of 1 component think of it as the body of the tree. The “Branch Core Files” are the branches of the tree.

The “Core files” Components are : Client Files, Server Files and Patch Files** ; Maintained every minute by (V A C).

The “Branch Core Files” are files linked (associated) with the actual core files. The “Branch Core Files” are Cvars, Scripts, Config.cfg.

The “Others” Basicly the leaves of the Core Files are the Models and Material files. (V A C) does not scan .VTF, .VTX .MDL .PHY, .VVD and .VMT files.

Most people would think thats all that steam looks at but.. accually……..No.

Steam Checks for Processes that over work STEAM.EXE. If you wanna know in simpler terms. STEAM.EXE is the main steam program where you play Counter-Strike Source and other games. If you hack and aren’t aware of “Overloaded Process Checking” You have a 60% chance to get banned. Hacking Edites Config.cfg, Scripts and bypasses sv_cheats and Consistency which interferes with the Cvars. If you use a hack make sure you do keep an eye at STEAM.EXE Mem Usage and the Hacks mem usage. If the hack overloads and interferes and works STEAM.EXE too much it will trigger (V A C). It checks out for the Core Files for any change and or modifications also it checks out Branch Core Files for any changes and or modifications.

My point is, if you claim you are banned because of cheating infractions, you were banned because of an illegal .dll .exe file in other words a hack. “The Core Files” or “Branch Core Files” were 100% modified by the hack. Skins do not cause bans nor editing Material or Model files. You my friend hacked and got caught.

I downloaded some hacks to use on CSS, i only used them on single player or on Non VAC Servers, where you are allowed to hack, but because Steam loves scanning peoples computer without their consent they found my hacks in a scan, and now i’m banned from VAC Servers, how GAY!!!!

hi, i have my steam account, it is in good standin as it says :), which it was my older brothers account which he got too old and tired of playin com games, when he did i had his friends account(this was when he played) and one day i turned on my computer and it wasent already logged in which it normaly was so i enterd the CORRECT details in the login thing and it said invailed steam user account, i did not get banned because i didnt do anything, but can some1 tell me wot had happend to my account. My brothers friend gave it to me through my brother, because he didnt play it anymore and he never ever cheated or hacked.

I had just bought all the *valve* games, 18 to be exact… and about a week later I got VAC Banned for hacking!! I used to play the old HL and CS but this is the first time I had really invested into gaming. The purchase price through steam was a good deal (I thought). All of the games only cost $79.95. I am not a hacker nor do I even know how to hack, but it p*ssed me off. Yeah I give them my business and I get a big boot in the a**! If I could I would have re-purchased them, but I don’t see any reason why I should just give them more of my hard-earned money! I have sent > 50 responses to Valve about the BAN and it seems as though they are just ignoring me. I eventually bought CS:Source again and I played it for one day. The following day I logged into STEAM and I was VAC Banned all over again… F*CK STEAM and their MONEY MAKING SCAM!!!

Although the typical steam games are not my preferred gaming experience, I recently bought a steam game for my son. He had seen numerous gmod videos (based on hl2 etc) and he was really excited. The version off gmod through steam did not work, however. After reading the forum posts, I found that a recent upgrade broke gmod for many customers.

Steam refused a refund, threatened to shut off the account with steam altogether if I disputed the charge with my credit card company, which would have made the games I bought through retail unusable also. After a few more emails I did convince them to give a refund for the not-working gmod. However, I learned from that, I will never buy a game through steam again. Sadly, companies such as Valve, do put out a great engine, but if Steam is required to use it, it isn’t worth it.

I purchased the game March 15th from Best Buy. I played the game for less than 5 hours max. I purchased Team Fortress using the STEAM Store. The only time I have ever typed my password in was while purchasing from STEAM store.

I went to Universal studios during spring break. last week of march. I returned and never tried to play until April 27th. I logged in and received saying that I was banned for a cheating infraction. I have not downloaded any modded content, skins, or anything of the sort. I do not have cheating programs on my computer and I sure as heck havent cheated myself.

I do not believe my account information has been stolen. I use Trend Micro, Process Guard, a router, and adware pro full version.

I believe there is a security flaw with STEAM store or STEAM/Valve is purposefully banning accounts hoping they will willingly and joyfully run out and purchase their software again. I have spent a total of 5 hours on these games. Their forum moderators have joked me and their STEAM support have ignored me.

Naturally I have now sent vulgar personal remarks to both.
Yes, VAC is banning people with false positives.

They would not release the IP’s or even tell me what date ranges I was supposedly caught cheating, nor the program used to cheat under my account. If I am the victim, this information should not be witheld. The only purpose for witholding this information is to protect the identify of the cheater or protect Valve from their own mistakes. If I were to know the IP, date, or program used, I would be able to provide definitive undeniable proof that I was not and have not ever cheated.

To what someone said, VAC not only monitors .dll and .exe files. It probably also scans the disk as i had hacks which I only used on LAN multiplayer with bots, silly isn’t it:)?? After some time I got informed I got banned not only from one game but from all i had. Now that was a bull-shit. You hack in one game and they FORCE You to buy all the other games despite the fact You’ve never been hacking with those for example. Valve is a piece os S-H-I-T but what can we do?? Bypass VAC :)

I love listening to these n00bs. Steam doesn’t do scans on your computer to see if you have hacks. They can only be found in-game. What VAC does is it traces any manipulated files, in this case.dll or .exe. If you are playing singe-player offline, they can’t ban you. I hacked before, I got banned. So, I stole an account, played again. And whoever gets caught is a real n00b. lol, but a VIP Hack if you want to play so bad.

My accounts got banned too. What’s even more messed up is that my account was hacked. I tried for over a month to get it back. When I do, everything was banned. I asked Valve if they could unban my account for me. NO! They saw that it was stolen. But even then, it’s my responsibility to secure my account. They said I let someone use it or someone use my machine. I’ve seen ways for people to use product key generators. Even still, it’s my responsibility. I am currently looking for an attorney to pursue legal action. This IS not right.

yep my steam got banned too…not for using hax but some virus/spyware can inject into a random exe process like hl2.exe and VAC detects that as an cheat… so use an antivirus like avg free

Well, they VAC-banned my account also. I don’t cheat. No one knows my steam password besides me. Long story short, I have no idea what triggered the ban.

I played a lot of TF2 and it’s probably just to get people to buy the games again.

Anyway, i think it’s lame that you can’t ask them when the cheating happened, or why you were banned. It’s good for keeping cheaters out of the game, but for debugging VAC… it’s idiotic. And it’s idiotic to think that VAC (or any software!!) is bug-free.

I originally thought that steam was such a promising way of distributing software. Now I’m certainly not gonna buy anything with VAC in it.

I was given a PC with Windows., Steam and Half-Life 2 in it. Fine.
Then I bought Orange Box and added more games to the other person account.
I could play HL2 Episodes and Portal and so on.
Today I couldn’t play anymore. It kept asking me the password (which was probably reset).
Fact is - I purchased Orange Box and paid for all the games already instead anyway.
Why the password was reset I don’t know - but I never heard from the guy that gave me the PC 2 years ago.
Either Valve reset the account OR the original owner changed the password.

In short, I got fed up - I can’t be bothered emailing, proving, contesting and chasing up cos of a game (I rightly purchased)

Valve/Steam is Nasty period.
Because innocent people get stuffed in the process and some really can do nothing about it.

DRM is evil.

And whilst Half-Life 2 was OK (I loved Portal more though) .. I still hope Valve dies a painful death.

I was never comfortable with Steam/Valve anyway and today it proved my point.

I am pissed and slightly saddened but not overly so .. I can rise above it, cos it’s not so important - feel some relief cos i hate Windows , DRM and Valve.
So enough of this: unistalled formatted the whole Windows crap that was crashing every so often anyway.
Back to Linux and enough of crashing Windows games.

Computers and Games should there to provide enjoyment never frustrations and headaches.

same problem I got too…I have no clue what happened, just recently I logged into my account and i tried playing some servers and I noticed the red circles next to it…I was just thinking “wow what just happened…” I checked my settings and it said it was banned due to cheating infractions….really annoying that that happened..I never once hacked..the most stuff i had on my cs 1.6 account was just skins from fpsbanana….maybe the reason It got banned was cause I had the account installed on my laptop and my desktop…I don’t know if that could be a reason they would ban an account though…if it is..that is a really bad excuse to ban accounts..and they should really rethink on fixing that..
