With gas prices on the rise I think everyone should be aware of this new hack. Not so you can get free gas (you naughty people) but so you can protect yourself against this. Speed passes and car key immobilizers all use RFID.

“Radio-Frequency IDentification (RFID) is a general term for small, wireless devices that emit unique identifiers upon interrogation by RFID readers.”

So basicly Speed Passes are simply wireless barcodes. So anyone with a laptop, a microreader and a serial cable could extract your codes from your speed pass or your car key while sitting next to you for only a couple seconds. Once they have that they would be able to use a DST simulation device connected to laptop to wave in front of the Speed Pass pad at a gas station and get a full tank at your expense.
