Something Rotten in Redmond?

Microsoft, that holier-than-thou bastion of anti-piracy, isn’t so lily white when it comes to their own interests, it seems. There has been talk, lately, about a possible acquisition by Microsoft, of a company with a past of its own - Claria (formerly known as Gator).

People who have been around the Internet for a while will certainly remember Gator as one of the most in-your-face spyware sources around. Now, since Microsoft’s interest in buying the company, Microsoft has suddenly and very quietly downgraded instances of Claria products from a default of Quarantine to a default of Ignore in Microsoft Anti-Spyware beta.

Bill Gates, what were you thinking???
