It’s 1964 Deja Vu All Over Again

Motorola is getting itchy. Forced into a public perception as a cell phone manufacturer and a (former?) bit part player in Apple’s orchestra, they have to be feeling the squeeze. The cell phone market is a very tight hot space to live in - lots of competition and a limited customer pool. So, they apparently decided to think outside the cell. They’ve introduced a video phone, called the Ojo.
It’s not a cell phone, it’s VoIP. According to the FAQ’s on Motorola’s site, all it needs is a wall socket for the power brick and a router connection to broadband Internet. AND, of course, an Ojo on the other end. Is the world ready to look good 24/7? I don’t know. It might spur the biggest wave of cosmetic surgery the universe has ever seen.
