Intel Changes Its Spots

Intel, in a move best characterized as ‘if you can’t beat ‘em…’, is bringing out their new Pentium D line at price points more often seen in the lineup of archrival AMD. By the end of the year, it seems likely that you’ll be able to buy a dual-core PD(?) for under $300.
In light of the past pricing structure at Intel, this has to be seen as fire-sale prices. The only question in my mind is whether this is purely an attempt to steal back market share or if Intel is getting desperate to plug the leak. Either way, it’s going to be an interesting Christmas season and a lot of consumers are going to be saying “Ho ho ho!”.
