Can’t keep your a, b, and g separate? This white paper will help. While it concentrates on 802.11g wireless LANs, there’s useful info here on 802.11b and 802.11a standards also. The most important differences are 802.11g and 802.11b are interoperable - 802.11a isn’t. 802.11g has a faster data rate tranfer at shorter distances than 802.11b - but at longer distances they are almost the same. And if you think that getting a ‘G’ router and network card will speed up your Internet access - it won’t (unless your pipe into the router is T3 or better). Most high speed providers can’t push it down to you any faster than 10 MBPS, so the only advantage of a G network would be for faster internal file transfers at shorter distances from the router.
