New type of dangerous adware appears

I’ve always considered the infections that hit your system without any bed computing habits on your part to be the worst thing that could happen. This new threat doesn’t make me feel any better. If you see this thing show up on your system, disconnect from the net IMMEDIATELY and take measures offline. If that means finding a cleaning tool and keeping a copy of it around, then it’s something you just need to do.
Unfortunately for us, the entry for this threat at Panda gives this a low threat level, mentions that only some of their products can detect it, and gives only instructions for removing it manually (involving registry editing).

Given that all you need do is visit the wrong page, I don’t think such a low threat level is realistic.

Panda Software’s PandaLabs have detected the appearance of Searchmeup, the first adware to use the Exploit/LoadImage vulnerability to download onto computers without users’ permission.

The pages from which Searchmeup are downloaded also contain a series of exploits to download other malware on the computer, such as the Tofger.AT Trojan — which steals banking passwords — Dialer.BB and Dialer.NO, and another adware called Adware/TopConvert.
