In television these days, there is hardly a show that doesn’t have the blood flowing or the boobies showing. It is hard to find a show that makes it on wit alone. Till a few weeks ago, I thought I had found the saving grace with Showtime’s original show, Dead Like Me. I guess a few executives didn’t share my opinion. The fight is far from over though. In the past shows would have died as soon as an executive put his nose up at it. Thanks to the Internet though, the consumer once again has a voice. Will it be enough to save this gem of a show? That has yet to be seen.
There is hope though. Although both Showtime, the channel that delivers the show, and MGM, the company behind the show’s production, have both failed to contact me back, one group did. Dead Like Me Online is a great fan Web site that shows much promise as the years go by.
Since the cancellation of Dead Like Me, the fans have made their way to Dead Like Me Online to show their distaste for the cancellation and their love for the show. Dead Like Me viewers, headed by the administration at Dead Like Me Online, have started letter writing campaigns to help save the show. The first petition is to ask Showtime not to cancel the show, and to reconsider putting it in the trash pile. This petition has gotten over 15,000 signatures so far. Another just recent petition, is asking Viacom to fire Bob Greenblatt. Bob Greenblatt is the man many believe is the cause of the cancellation of the show.
It has been said that Hank Cohen, President of MGM is in favor of keeping Dead Like Me alive. Rumors have started that he has pitched the show to both the Sci-Fi Network and the WB. So is there an after-life for this show about the after-life? As a fan, I sure as heck hope so.
