HP to Drop Itanium Workstations

You know, I keep seeing things like this often enough that I’m beginning to wonder if Intel isn’t in even more trouble than I thought, originally. In an item from the current issue of HP World, it’s mentioned that even though HP partnered with Intel in designing the chip, it ran into product delays and a recent recall by Intel.

Instead, HP is offering the Opteron server chips from Intel rival AMD, which “has proved to be so popular that Intel was forced to crank out a chip with similar features”. It’s said that HP will market their line of AMD-powered servers in February.

What Do You Think?
