I am not a fan of tax season. On top of that, I am pretty sure that my tax bill is going to be pretty high this year. Well, those of you lucky enough to be able to use the 1040EZ filing will be thrilled to hear that Intuit will be offering you folks the option of utilizing their free tax service this tax season.
Intuit Inc. on Thursday unveiled a free online service designed for paper-and-pencil filers of simple federal returns.
SnapTax, available later this month, is for people who use form 1040EZ and want to prepare and print the document online. The service also applies to most 1040A forms.
People have the option of paying $5.95 to electronically file their return to speed up the time in receiving a refund, the San Diego-based financial software maker said.
Intuit also plans to launch later this month a tax-filing web site designed specifically for young tax filers between the ages of 18 and 24. The TurboTax for the Web EZ service includes discount coupons for PCs, digital cameras and spring break travel spots. The service starts at $5.95, which includes electronic filing.
