As InfoWorld reports, the rules of how to deal with a virtual crime scene are still being learned. Unlike something that you might see on CSI, the virtual world of the Internet is still a little bit like the wild west. It can be quite difficult to preserve anything here unless you are very careful. Hopefully a conference being held in Europe will help to shed some light on the right way and the wrong way to deal with this sort of thing.

The two-day conference, organized by the Council of Europe and held in Strasbourg, France, was meant to encourage more countries to sign the Council’s convention on cybercrime, which aims to strengthen international cooperation in combating computer-based crime and to harmonize national legislation. The conference drew more than 200 participants from government and the private sector.
