Internet Week reports that “eTwine has officially launched its social networking Web site”. I must say that on the surface, it sounds a lot like Friendster or one of the other social hubs that people are flocking to these days. At any rate, it will be interesting to see how the whole thing turns out.

Following an initial beta testing phase that began in May 2004, eTwine has officially launched its social networking Web site. The site integrates social networking, online dating, event planning, and Web logs.

New York-based eTwine has attracted several thousand members during its pre-launch phase according to founder Darrell Lerner. In a statement, Lerner attributed the strong membership at launch to the site’s unique combination of features. “We believe we offer users the ultimate social experience on the net and more ways to meet people than any other site on the market,” said Lerner, who is also an eTwine member.
