Determine size of power supply?

An ExtremeTech reader writes in to ask how determine size of power supply. A good question, and they offer him a good answer. Use the Power Wattage Calculator from jscustompcs.com. Conversely, if this guy had been a Lockergnome reader, he would have known this a long time ago. ;o)

“I won’t be surprised if you receive many responses telling you the 250 W PSU is too small, but visit http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/ and use their Power Wattage Calculator. Compared to my system which, according to the Power Wattage Calculator, needs about a 250 W PSU (which is what I have), your system probably should have a higher rated PSU because you have 2 hard drives, where I have one, and I suspect your video card may require more power than mine. Otherwise, our systems are similar.
