It’s not about about being a serious beta tester anymore, these days it is about being one of the few or one of the first. This trend has really shown it’s face lately with the beta program for Google’s Gmail. While it is not a state secret that it is a beta service being offered by Google, you practically have to be royalty to get yourself invited to become a user. The odd thing is that no seems to remember that this is supposed to be a service that is still in the review process, thus needing feedback to be sent back to Google so that they can continue to implement suggested improvements. Nah, instead it has become a “neat toy” that a lucky few enjoy while others continue to yearn for that Gmail fix.
