“SYMPTOMS
When you use a notebook computer that runs Microsoft Windows XP, if Windows XP is in hibernation when you remove a swappable bay device from the computer, the device may not be available to Windows XP even if you reinsert the device. For example, this problem may occur if you remove a battery or a CD-ROM drive swappable bay from an notebook computer.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if an Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) enumerated device is removed from the computer without using the Safely Remove Hardware tool. Such a removal is known as ’surprise removal’ because the operating system is not notified before of the removal.
