SYMPTOMS
When you use a multi-word phrase in the Microsoft Windows Search feature to search for a file, the search may not return all the documents that match the search criteria.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because Search scans a document’s text in set sized blocks of words. If the phrase spans two blocks, Search cannot match the phrase. Search can only scan one block at a time, and Search does not carry over partial matches.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.”
