Microsoft has quietly released an Office 2003/XP Add-in: Remove Hidden Data, an update that can delete hidden information for users of Office XP and 2003’s Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. They hide meta data that contain document information that is designed to help workers collaborate on projects. The Dallas Morning News reports, “This feature, designed to help workers collaborate on group projects, came to the fore a year ago in an embarrassing episode involving a British government dossier on Iraq’s security and intelligence organizations. A Cambridge University lecturer found it contained editing logs showing much of the material was copied from three published articles, including one by a grad student.”
