Canadian Robot Swims Like a Shrimp

A strange turtle-like creature has been sighted off of the coast of Holetown, Barbados. While it swims like a shrimp, it is in fact a robot that uses computer vision and robotics technology. With its six yellow flippers, this silver creature is the result of the Network of Centres of Excellence AQUA project. Canadian Professors Martin Buehler, Gregory Dudek, Michael Jenkin and Evangelos Milios along with a team of graduate students and technicians have spent the last two years developing an underwater walking robot. This week, the unique robot was validated in the sea for the first time, and has demonstrated the ability to swim, observe and survive in an ocean environment.”
