A spiky cactus in the Kalahari Desert of Africa holds the promise of the ultimate hunger suppressant. Primitive native peoples, the San Bushmen, have eaten the Hoodia for millennia to keep hunger at bay during extended hunting forays. The organic molecule responsible for the miraculous hunger reduction has been tested and a lawyer for the Bushmen says that they could become millionaires if they can license the plant to pharmaceutical companies. Already Hoodia pills are appearing on the market — but they contain none of the coveted cacti’s miracle molecules.
