Y2K glitch leaves motorists and traffic cops in the dark

Some Jamaican motorists must have received the shock of their lives recently when they were served with arrest warrants for unpaid traffic fines. As it turns out however, though they may have paid these fines, the Government of Jamaica’s nearly 10-year-old computer system for tracking traffic fines and points went haywire when 1999 ticked over to the year 2000, and it hasn’t functioned properly since.

A new system is said to be in the pipeline, so maybe that will help to reduce the growing number lawsuits for wrongful arrest.
