Thermal Grease Use Voids AMD Warranty?

Just saw this story while at [H]ard|OCP and I find this rather strange that AMD does not want any thermal grease used on their processors whatsoever other than this brand: Shin Etsu G 749. AMD actually recommends the use of phase change material (a.k.a. thermal pads) over thermal grease. I know a few people that use thermal grease compounds such as Arctic Silver on their AMD processors and they’ve never had any problems due to their use of it. Sounds to me like AMD came up with this policy after thinking up the absolute worst-case scenario that might happen…
