“Gov. James E. McGreevey’s plan to use upgraded driver’s licenses as a tool against terror employs technology already outpaced by high-tech tools possessed by terrorists and crooks, a prosecutor savvy in document fraud said Monday. The new digitized licenses, which will begin to be issued in July, will cost motorists at least a third more than the current paper licenses. Among other changes, the Department of Motor Vehicles is in the middle of getting a new name — the Motor Vehicle Commission, or MVC.”
