Australia plans spam ban

“Australia plans to introduce new laws to ban unsolicited emails, known as spam, by the end of the year. Communications Minister Richard Alston said he will introduce legislation ‘in the next few months’ to make spamming an offence.”
The laws will only apply to spam originating from Australia, so it won’t tackle the global problem (most is believed to originate from the US, Russia and the far-east). But it’s a step in the right direction, and may set an example for other governments.
