Counter-Strike 1.6 BETA

The game that has spawned thousands of followers, websites, game servers, and gaming clans has KINDA released BETA 1.6. It’s still hard to get because you have to use Steam.

Installation:
Steam, in my opinion, is very glitchy and very unstable. Yet, I pushed on because I had to have 1.6 for my LAN party this weekend (only to be crushed by the fact that i can’t redistribute the installer to my friends). So after waiting about 45 minutes (I had heard stories of as much as a few days) it was installed, but it didn’t work. So I restarted and it still didn’t work. Well I restarted again and TA-DA!!! it worked.

Look and Feel:
Well the interface was very clean and Windows-like, with a start menu type thing and windows. It was very sluggish though. I also noticed that when putting in your keys that you are going to use, it seemed to lag a bit.

In-Game:
Well as far as I can tell nothing has really changed. The only change I noticed was the Glock is a bit more powerful. They did add some new stuff though.
First off the Riot Sheild, my opinion: worthless. Yeah some thought this would be cool, no not really, you can still die and you can only use pistols.
The FAMAS (CT Only), my opinion: beautiful, it was amazingly accurate, fast, and very cool looking, but it only sported a 25 bullet clip size.
Finally the Galil (T Only), my opinion: great, it was pretty accurate, not too terribly fast, and kinda looks like the bigger brother of the AK-47. It holds 35 bullets per clip.

Some Side Notes: the game is still in beta, its a bit buggy. One great thing, there are no cheaters/hackers in game as of yet because the cheaters/hackers have not made new cheats/hacks yet for 1.6 and probably won’t for a while.

My advice: 1.6 is okay and the people are better, but there are less servers, the game is glitchy, the servers aren’t optimized, and Stream is fairly glitchy. Wait until they come out with the final of 1.6 and you will probably be much happier.
