Baseballs could save lives

  • No Related Post

Researchers at Penn State University have found a method to use a wireless microphone and transmitter inside of a baseball to find survivors in a collapsed building. The current method is to run expensive, heavy mics down into the wreckage, which is impossible to do in complex wreckage (like the WTC, where the reasearch was done). Using baseballs would be relatively inexpensive, and the balls would be able to bounce and roll deep into the wreckage while search crews could listen from above. Because it is the cost per ball would be low, there wouldn’t be a great financial loss if any of the balls weren’t recovered.
