Known for its love of geek chic as well as its congested streets, San Francisco might have been expected to embrace a new, environmentally friendly personal vehicle that promises to pull people out of their smog-spewing cars. Instead, the city on Monday becomes the first large municipality to outlaw the Segway Human Transporter on its sidewalks — more than a month before the chariot-like vehicles are made available to the public.
Got more info from Brady regarding my asking why bikes are OK and Segways are not: Well, actually bikes & even skateboards are illegal to ride on the sidewalks of most city streets throughout America so it’s no different to outlaw these devices on the sidewalks. Most American city streets do have bike lanes that they are supposed to ride on however.
