Microsoft Settles for $1.1 Billion

A class action lawsuit against Microsoft alleged that Californians over paid for software because of MS’s monopolistic practices. Actually the $1.1 billion dollar figure is fairly deceptive, most of that money is made up of vouchers that people will receive in compensation. These vouchers will only be good for purchasing computer hardware and software (not just from MS). Only when the vouchers are redeemed by vendors will Microsoft actually have to pay any money. The vouchers will be worth between $5-29 apiece. Sounds like a pretty good settlement for MS and not so good for the consumers.
