“The Electronic Privacy Information Center is launching a counterattack against Hollywood’s efforts to crack down on student file swapping.
The privacy advocacy group is sending letters to presidents of colleges across the country, asking them to think before they install monitoring tools on university networks.”
I have mixed feelings about the whole P2P situation. Most of us are guilty of downloading copyrighted MP3s (myself included) and we know and understand that it’s stealing. But on the other hand, must of us don’t want to pay for an entire CD just to listen to one song. Obviously, we owe something to the creators of the music and they have the right to stop piracy IMO. It’ll be interesting to see how everything pans out over the years. At my university there is currently nothing being done to stop piracy, and I’ll keep you posted if that changes. To all of the other students out there: is there anything happening at your school to prevent P2P file-swapping?
