In celebration of the Nuit Blanche art festival in Paris, Tower T2 of the Bibliotheque nationale de France has been turned into what is probably the world’s biggest computer screen. It’s a display that’s a mere 20 x 26 pixel display, but each of those pixels is a grayscale capable 3.6 x 1.8 meter pixel. The site lets users stream live video from animations being played on the side of the building as well as submit their own which may be part of the regular rotation. The have a program available for download to design animations as well as a C library for programmers who want to create a game or interactive program using the side of the building as their canvas.
Users or observers of the display can even call in from their cell phones to control certain aspects. The program automatically detects whether the caller is from Germany or France and provide the appropriate language prompts. Everyone else gets English. Oh yeah, and it all runs on Linux. :) How cool is that?
