Yesterday was my birthday…

Yesterday was my birthday, and it was a very uneventful day. I make it a habit of waiting to tell people I’m a year older until the following day. I’m not terribly old, but I tend not to celebrate my inevitable aging. It’s good practice for me. When I hit 50 (22 years from now), I’ll be fully prepared to lie about my age. No one will suspect a thing.

My wife and I invited some friends over to enjoy some green cake last night. As a youngster, my mother asked me what color birthday cake I wanted. I asked for green, and for whatever reason, she was horrified. Nevertheless, she bought some green food coloring and presented me with a green cake on my sixth birthday. Not a particularly interesting story, but one that amuses my wife so much that she’s been making green cakes for me every year without fail.
