Space Lasers: Wave of the Future?

The laser is possibly the next wave of communication for space travel and satellites. Radio waves carries the bulk of space-to-ground communication and this is thought to be a key advance in relaying information in this arena. But keep in mind an article from a few days ago about laser weapons being developed for our Air Force. Space would definitely give a broader range of targets and you’d never hear or see it coming. Conspiracy or my paranoia?
