Black holes collide in computer

A computer simulation of two black holes violently merging into one will help direct astronomers in their search for gravitational waves - one of the most fundamental, yet elusive, phenomena in the Universe.

The simulated black hole collision was performed by a group of researchers from the University of Texas and the Theoretical Astrophysics Centre in Copenhagen, collectively known as the Lazarus team.
