Apple Sues Rumor Site

Taking a page from the playbook of more than a few overexposed celebrities, Apple has decided to sue a popular Mac site over rumors and leaks being published. ThinkSecret has released some major scoops of late that have been spreading like wildfire in tech news circles. These rumors have clearly hit a nerve as the Macworld Expo of 2005 nears.
The most touted rumors in recent days have been the Flash-based iPod, the headless-Mac for under $500, and iWorks replacing AppleWorks as the new Apple office suite. Not that these rumors are all that new, mind you, as some members of ThinkSecret have been pointing out. Supporters of the site argue that it is only Apple’s lawsuit that lends credence to the rumors and that the manufacturer only stands to profit from the scoops as they create such a buzz before a single dollar is spent on advertising.
According to Apple, it is merely trying to smoke out the insiders who are either releasing or confirming these rumors. As a result, this is the third lawsuit that it has recently filed, after a suit over the leaking of its upcoming version of the MacOS, code-named Tiger, and a suit against two unnamed men for spilling the proverbial beans on an upcoming musical product, code-named Asteroid.
