There are no bad forum members, only bad moderators

Are you making good use of your forum moderators? Do you even have any? If you don’t, you are missing out on a lot of benefits.
In particular, moderators can act as the official “role models” of your forums. They aren’t quite administrators but are more than regular members, which gives them a unique point of view. They are in a position not only to help your forums’ members understand you but also to help you understand your forums’ members.
Anyone can start forums and try to post a list of all-encompassing rules and expectations, but good moderators are more effective than any set of rules because they are living, breathing examples of what is expected. Put quality folks in these positions, and I promise that you’ll have fewer trolls to kick out in the long run.
