A few weeks ago, I talked about the coming changes in Ryze’s networking model. Today, what I consider to be by far the biggest change goes into effect:
Tirelessly keeping watch over the mean streets of the Internet! We\’re helping you with spam alerts, spyware warnings, spoof advisories, sleazeball sightings, security updates, system fixes - and, of course, product reviews - it\’s all part of the beat for the Net Patrol.

Stowe Boyd makes a start at The Ten Commandments of Social Networking:
Adam Greenfield writes that social networking sites are officially useless to him.
“Socialtext closed its Series A round with existing investors such as Joi Ito, Reid Hoffman, Mark Pincus and Freedom Technology Ventures — and new investors Jun Makihara and Omidyar Network.” says the Socialtext Blog.
This exciting new development in the social networking space will allow Socialtext to “build upon our market leadership and fulfill a mission […]
P2P applications have always been a gray area of the law. Some get smacked down and bought out (Napster) while others try and remain below the radar. One such application, Morpheus, was recently green-lighted by US courts.
The ruling, that Morpheus’s application does not break copyright laws because it is capable of “substantial non-infringing uses”.

The last year has shown considerable advances in the enterprise space for Instant Messaging (IM) with offerings from Microsoft, Yahoo and AOL, as well as integration packages for Lotus Notes, Novell Groupwise and most large email platforms.
According to a recent article in SearchSecurity.com, though IM adoption is slowing amid security and compatibility concerns.
“Lack of secure […]
In the process of pounding away on the book tonight, I came across this great quote from my friend and colleague Justin Hitt, who teaches business executives how to develop and manage strategic relationships. He is a user of social networking sites, but a staunch advocate of a focused approach, emphasizing strong relationships.
“When online systems […]
I received an invitation to Multiply this week from Christian Crumlish, author of The Power of Many (and, btw, the guy who I met via LinkedIn and Ryze who introduced us to our agent). Here’s what it read:
My co-author and I are down to the wire on our book, The Virtual Handshake — the manuscript goes to our publisher next Monday. We’ve got a complete book — a really good book — but we think a few more real-world examples and stories will help make it a great book.
An article (subscription required) in Monday’s Wall Street Journal tells of the new virtual cottage industry that has grown up around helping people present themselves better in online dating sites.
Are you making good use of your forum moderators? Do you even have any? If you don’t, you are missing out on a lot of benefits.
When you actively participate in a lot of different online communities, what are you supposed to do about passwords?
Sure, many people just use the “remember me” option and then forget about it. Inevitably, though, you eventually delete your cookies (or your browser loses track of them on its own — it’s happened to me), […]

Some quite interesting trends emerge from the report I created with the questions and answers collected at yesterday’s live event “State of the E-conferencing Industry:
Today’s Issues and Tomorrow’s Solution” organized and presented/moderated by Stephanie Downs of ConferZone.
If we don’t leverage more audience participation and parallel channels (like Alex Williams correctly pointed out) we are […]
At a recent conference on open source software, Tim O’Reilly said that all the social software services are a hack because we haven’t really reinvented the address book.
Tim next turned his attention to social software and asked how many people in the audience had tried Orkut. Most of the audience raised their hands. He followed […]
Scott Stratten founded the Un-Marketing Network on Ryze just one year ago, and has grown it into one of the largest and most successful networks on Ryze, doing his business a good turn in the process. He recently shared some of the highlights of his experience on Ryze with his network:
Instead of adding to […]
In doing some research about desktop search for the chapter in our book about organizing your files and email, I came across HotBot Desktop, a tool so incredibly handy and powerful that it might make me be willing to switch back to Internet Explorer and give up Google as my favorite search engine. At […]
