Don’t Buy Pocket Informant from WebIS - buy SBSH’s Papyrus Instead.

I was listening to episode 3 of the Windows Mobile Podcast a while back after I got my new Motorola Q phone.  They had a review of an application called Pocket Informant sold by WebIS that sounded really great.  It’s a pretty incredible skinned UI that sits on top of the task and calendar database on your Smartphone. It has some really nice views that just do a much better job at expressing data than come stock with WM5 (Windows Mobile 5).

Why am I not reviewing this app if it is so great?  Because it is merely a branded version of SBSH’s Papyrus. Papyrus has all the same great things I mentioned above, but with a different logo, and they are the original developers so updates are more likely to spin up from them.

Besides, you can get Papyrus for less money ($17.95 versus $24.95).  BUT, it gets better.

If you join the SBSH.net forums, you are qualified for yet ANOTHER discount which in the end gets you this incredible program for $10.95!!!  Do not ever consider buying Pocket Informant (sorry WebIS…)  Instead, go straight to the source and get SBSH Papyrus.

Sorry, but you are totally wrong on this baseless allegation. The CEO of WEBIS, Alex Kac, (who is very active in development as well) runs an excellent set of forums. Go to http://www.pocketinformant.com/forums and look around. I think you’ll quickly see your mistake. Please retract this post and apologize publicly to Alex.

I actually did some checking on this before writing this post.

I found both separately and installed both, only to find out even more after being oddly confused by the UI sameness. I also installed SBSH Facade. That’s where the proof was.

Check out page three of SBSH’s manual for Facade. You’ll find it at http://www.sbsh.net/products/facade/index.php?page=support They specifically call out and mention Pocket Informant as a branded version of Papyrus.

Sorry, but I have nothing here to apologize for except for telling people how to save some serious money on a great application. You’ll die before you see an apology from me on that front.

I stand by my review. If you want a great PIM UI replacement for your Smartphone at an excellent price, buy SBSH’s Papyrus. If you want a great PIM UI replacement for your Smartphone at a price more than twice as high, buy Pocket Informant. Either way you get the exact same application.

OK, I contacted WebIS and got the complete story. The answer is we’re both right - Pocket Informant for SmartPhone is indeed a branded version of Papyrus.

Pocket Informant for PocketPC (which is what I have) is an original creation of WebIS.

Sorry for coming on so strong on this, but I very much like the PocketInformant app, and have been very impressed with the high level of support and information in WebIS’s forum regarding plans & status. Good vendors are too scarce, I’ll ready to stand up for them when I find one.

Best Regards,

Not a problem Dewayne, I can’t fault you for doing the same thing I was! Maybe all the Pocket PC users that don’t have a Smartphone to run Papyrus should check out the WebIS PPC version of Pocket Informant… :)

How do you get the membership discount. I tried going to their site and add it into my card but don’t know how to apply the membership discount.
