How to Hard Reset a Motorola Q Phone (Sprint PCS)

This post goes through the quick process of doing a hard reset for your Motorola Q Windows Mobile device. I have Sprint PCS, but assumingly, this should work on any Moto Q.
This is all in the manual, which I thankfully have a PDF of on my master thumb drive. You might only have Internet access though, and this is an invaluable time saving tip. When you mess things up so bad your device freezes, you’ll have to do a hard reset. I strongly suggest buying Sprite Backup. In addition, install it to your Storage Card and save your backups there as well. That way you can restore on the road without a PC.
To perform the hard reset, hold down the center select button in the middle of the D-pad/joypad (the raised silver one.) Then, continuing to hold it for at least five seconds, press the power button to allow the device to power up. Continue to hold the select button until you get a screen which asks if you want to perform the master reset. Let go of the select button, and press the appropriate soft action key to respond yes.
REMEMBER! A hard reset erases ALL of your data!!! This is why the Backup is so important.

I have had customers with problems with their handheld devices, but most who have had numerous problems with devices have them with Sprint. Wonder why they have such bad luck…

To Sprint’s credit, this one was totally my fault. I was tweaking home screen *.home.xml files by hand and biffed one up badly to the point where the phone froze. It likely would have happened on any Windows Mobile device.
Beyond that, your comment gives me pause to worry about my device’s future for things that aren’t my fault. Glad I took advantage of Sprite Backup’s 35% discount on April 30th!!!

I really thought my phone was messed up until I found this page. This was a lifesaver thank you so much.
I couldnt do anything with my phone I mean nothing at all.I was just hours away from taking it to Sprint so they could charge me to do a hard reset that was found free on the E-Net. Thanks again

Has anyone found a way to retrieve the data before doing a master reset? That is, if you didn’t have the info backed up…is there a way to get the contacts (at least)?
