China Mobile has drank from the mobile music kool-aid it seems. With their 269 million subscribers, I suppose the chances for making a real hit with their music venture is likely to do pretty well.
China Mobile has launched a mobile music club dubbed M.Music. The club will offer full-track downloads to members, as well as “access to the latest labels, downloads of music videos, singers’ photos and ringtones as well as magazines in SMS (short messaging service) format”. The company has 269 million subscribers, although it’s not clear how many have appropriate handsets.
There’s a lot of talk in the article about mobile music combating rampant copyright infringing activities in China…Hung Tik, managing director of Universal Music China, estimated the traditional music market in the first half of this year shrank 30-40 percent in terms of revenue. Source: moco.news
