So What’s Wrong With Steve Wanting Us to Have New iPods Yearly?

Funny how the fangs come out when a CEO is just being honest. Point in case, Steve Jobs, Apple’s top dog, told Brian Williams of NBC News that, “you have to buy a new iPod at least once a year.” Based on the comments around the web, people aren’t sitting too well with Steve’s wishes, but in context, Jobs was trying to tell Williams that Apple is attempting to continue it’s innovation, “and if you always want the latest and greatest, then you have to buy a new iPod at least once a year.” He’s not saying everyone has to buy a new iPod every year, people! He’s saying if you’ve got a problem with pride and think you need to keep feeding it with having the latest and greatest, then buy an iPod every year. That’s it. (Okay, not everyone that buys the new ones have pride issues. :) )
Personally, I agree with Stevie boy here. If you’ve got to have the best, then the best you have to buy. What’s the best DAP out? iPod. Why? ‘Cause it keeps pushing the envelope with a newer and better version quicker than you can say, “Hey, did see what Creative just released?” Cutting edge buyers keep Apple cutting edge. Without the new purchases, there’s nothing to fund R&D. It’s the terrible reality of a capitalistic market, folks. Sorry.
Now you don’t have to buy a new one every year, obviously. Apple creates each iPod to last for a good chunk of cyber-time. I know one guy who still has his 1G iPod. He loves it. I have a 2G that I use for my Altec Lansing inMotion im7 and it works just dandy. My wife didn’t care that the Nano had more density than her Mini. She stuck with the Mini. I held off updating my 4G for the 5G because I really didn’t care about the larger screen. Sure, it was innovative, but not what I was looking for. I’m still waiting for a larger hard drive and hopefully some Bluetooth and Wi-Fi action. If the next one doesn’t have a larger drive but rather the full-screen as rumored, I’ll pass on that, too. But millions of others won’t. Cool. Good for them.
You know, I can understand some of the time when people get bent out of shape when big companies reveal it does things just to sale more product. But when a company is trying to sell more better product, that I have no issue with. I applaud it.
