Ah yes, good old 1970’s styled video games. Could anything else be so made perfectly for the mobile world? Some might argue it…
LOS ANGELES (AFP) - The vintage video arcade game Super Pac-Man was revived for play on Sprint mobile telephones as computer game makers showed off their latest wares at the industry’s largest trade show.
Celebrity socialite Nicole Richie put her star power behind the relaunch of one of the most popular ever electronic games, striding into a lounge at the edge of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) with a costumed Super Pac-Man.
“This is Pac-Man’s crush,” quipped Jason Ford, general manager of Sprint Games and Entertainment. “Don’t tell Mrs. Pac-Man.”
The arcade Super Pac-Man became an arcade hit after its 1982 release — only a year after Richie was born — according to Scott Rubin of Namco Networks, which is reviving the game for play on cell-phones.
The original Pac-Man arcade game made its debut in 1980.
“When I was growing up, I played Pac-Man on a machine in my house,” said Richie, daughter of legendary US singer Lionel Richie. “So, now I’m very excited to be able to play it on my phone.”
Namco was promoting the launch by giving away a Volkswagen Beetle decorated in Super Pac-Man style in a free sweepstakes on its website, www.namcogames.com. Source: AFP
