Your Blackberry is Safe (For Now)

The man who has all the power in the world to shut down the largest messaging tool in the United States has done…nothing. U.S. District Judge James Spencer adjourned the NTP vs RIM case with no decision. But the judge didn’t leave the press wondering what he thought as he did express “skepticism” about RIM’s argument that the world as we know it would cease to function if Blackberry’s were shut down. Why? Mmm, guess the judge was reading all the hoopla RIM told it’s stockholders that it had a work around. Doh! Guess that won’t be a good thing for the “pro” list to keep RIM in business.

The short end of the story is that all your professionals can breathe a sigh of relief. You’ll still be able to send and receive messages at least through the weekend. The judge did say he would give an answer, “as soon as reasonably possible.” He also said that RIM indeed infringed on NTP and that, “The simple truth, the reality of the jury verdict has not changed.”

If I was a RIM user, I’d be looking for another device this weekend. ;)
