Laptops connect to mobile networks

To be honest, this makes sense. Fiber options cost big money, even with the speeds that they may offer. And yet with the promise of Wimax and the lot, we may not even need to look into other alternatives after all.

The Global Systems for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA) and chip giant Intel Corp have announced an initiative to drive the GSM family of technologies in laptop computers.

The move is aimed at enabling users to connect and seamlessly roam across global mobile networks, the GSMA said in a statement last week.

Under the agreement, the GSMA and Intel will collaborate to develop guidelines for integrating 3G modems and SIM (subscriber identity module) cards into laptop computers. [Read the rest]
