Find Strong and Weak AM/FM Signals via ZIP Code

  • No Related Post

Living in San Jose most of my life, I was hard pressed to find even a point something of dead air on the radio. Man, from 88.1 up to 107.7, it was packed. Trying to use an FM modulator on anything was fruitless. I found out Silicon Valley wasn’t the only one with this problem when I went on my first business trip to LA. Now with all these FM modulators for the iPod, how’s one to find a weak radio frequency spot for it? Running through the dial can take up some time and not even give you a good accurate gauge of where a dead spot really is.

V-Soft Communications has put together a very basic looking but powerful web page that lets you find the strongest signals in your area. The AM FM Zip Code Based Signal Strengths finds all your local radio stations on both bands and displays the call letters, frequency, and signal information on a nice and easy to read table. By reviewing this information, you can then easily narrow down where the weakest signals are and set up your iPod to transmit to that frequency! Kinda like reverse engineer. :) But I guess if you’re curious how much signal KROQ is pumping out down in the Valley, you could use this for that, too.
