Japanese Now Bring Camera Phones to Funeral

Do I dare make a wise crack here? Nah, but I will tell you this, this camera phone thing in Japan is starting to get a little, mmm, odd. Looks like over there in the land of utter technology, the latest thing to do is snap a final picture of Harry (okay, Haruko-san) as he lay dead in his coffin. One funeral had several people pop out their phones in almost unison and snap a picture before cremation began.
“I get the sense that people no longer respect the dead. It’s disturbing,” a funeral director told the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper.
Ya, I’m down with Mainichi-san all the way. What gives over there? This is just spooky weird. I mean, I have issue looking at dead people to begin with, why would anyone want a poor grainy picture of a friend or loved one? Come on, do you think the deceased wants their picture taken from the grave?
Notch this one as really out there. A little to much sake people!
