Volkswagen And Google Do It… Again!
Those who aren’t blessed with a GPS unit can use an online mapping service such as Google Maps. Well Volkswagen figured why not take the best of the Web mapping features, 3D maps, and slap ‘em into their cars? That’s what the German People Car will be doing with help from Google and nVidia. Putting Points of Interests (POI), such as the Sunnyvale Volkswagen dealership (where my wife purchased her Jetta in ‘97), in the map on the actual building, it makes the place of interest much easier to find.
While most of us won’t be way up in the air with this kind of bird’s eye view, the perspective definitely helps anyone driving around an area they don’t know too well when they need – NEED – to have a Starbucks now!
No timetable to when this will be out it but it is “closer to visual reality.” No word either if we’ll get “night view” in 3D, either.
