It was just a matter or time before one would be able to see through walls just like Superman. Now with Radar Scope, the military will be able “see” through 12 inches of concrete. This will aid troops in finding individuals or groups of people hiding in thick walled buildings. The Radar Scope is able to detect movement as small as breathing by simply holding it up to a wall. Being able to sense as far in as 50 feet, this will surly be a life saver on the battlefront.
“It may not change how four-man stacks go into a room (during clearing operations),” Edward Baranoski from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s Special Projects Office said. “But as they go into a building, it can help them prioritize what rooms they go into. It will give them an extra degree of knowledge so they know if someone is inside.”
Developed by the same folks who brought us the Internet, DARPA, the Department of Defense will have these new units out in the field by spring for those in Iraq. The $1,000 handset-sized unit will be light enough for any soldier to put into their gear and priced low enough to equip many troops with the Superman-like device.
