Monstrous Hard Drive Space In A Small Package

Seagate is taking the portable hard drive to the next level with the introduction of its 160MB external hard drive. Powered by a 2.5″ drive using perpendicular recording technology, the Seagate drive can pack more data into the same amount of space as previous smaller drives. But how? By placing data on its end instead of flat on the surface of the drive, more room is conserved for data using this new method of storage. This also improves read times since more data is passing under the heads of the hard drive as the disc spins under them.
The drive uses USB 2.0 and can support data transfer speeds up to 480Mbps. The Momentus 5400.3 will definitely set the standard for portable drives and I can’t wait to find one of these inside laptops in the near future.
