First ExpressCard Out

Many at Macworld were a bit confused on how they were going to squeeze their PC Cards into the new Intel notebook from Apple after seeing the smaller slot on the left side of the the new groovy laptop. That slot is an ExpressCard slot. It’s smaller and faster then the PC Card which was the replacement for the PCMCIA slot (remember those?) Trouble with the new slot is there really isn’t thing for it. But truth is, who really uses the slot anyways for anything but reading flash cards?

I guess one Japanese company understands the number one need for this ultra fast slot isn’t an EV-DO card to take advantage of Verizon’s and Sprint’s 3G data network but rather to have a 5-in-1 reader. Just like I said! :) Y-E Data has introduced the YD-8V30 for those skilled in overseas purchases to have just in time for when DHL delivers that shinny new $2,000 MacBook Pro to your home. Joy!

Forget to nay-sayers. Apple surely got support for this great new and smaller card reader and I suspect we’ll be seeing more ExpressCards within the next few months. Dell and HP will have these on its laptops, too, and thus more peripherals will flooding the market before you can say, “Remember how Apple was the first to use this?”
