Those South Korean’s. They just love mobile phones and pretty much all of the country owns at least one. With three-quarters of the nation possessing a mobile phone, prosecutors will be trashing the old paper notification system and opting for using the modern, and quicker, Small Message System of the phones their “clients” have. “Most people in South Korea have mobile phones and since the notices don’t reach them immediately by regular mail, this is a more definite way for the individuals to know they have received a legal notice,” Lee Young-pyo, an administrative official told Reuters. Yup, nothing like being instantly notified that your behind is in deep doo-doo.
What this will do for many of the SMS users is hard to say. I would think that that digital tone for a new message may go from one of elation to dread, well, at least for the really bad South Korean’s. Fortunately, however, the bad boys have to first sign up for the “service,” so if one chooses to keep their SMS for casing and stalking purposes only, they can continue with their game plane without fear of being beeped while in the middle of a bank robbery by the court.
